Anees Bazmee calls Govinda ‘Comedy King’; reveals waiting for the right script to collaborate with him

Bollywood director Anees Bazmee achieved great success in 2022 with the blockbuster hit Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, taking the helm of the franchise from Priyadarshan. Bazmee boasts a diverse portfolio, with hits like No Entry and Welcome, alongside a few misses such as No Problem. Notably, he shares a strong professional bond with Govinda, having collaborated on the 2006 film Sandwich, where Govinda played the lead role. 

Bazmee’s contributions to the industry extend beyond directing; he is also the talented writer behind hit films like Aankhen (1993), Shola Aur Shabnam (1992), Deewana Mastana (1997), and Raja Babu (1994). While Bazmee continues to be active in the industry, Govinda has been absent from the silver screen for several years, the director still looks up to him.

In a candid conversation with Siddharth Kannan, Anees Bazmee affectionately called Govinda the ‘Comedy King’ and hailed him as a phenomenal actor. Bazmee expressed his unwavering belief in Govinda’s unparalleled comedic prowess, after films like Aankhen, Shola Aur Shabnam, and Deewana Mastana.

Specifically praising Govinda’s performance in Raja Babu, Bazmee underscored his outstanding comic timing and inherent charisma on screen. Bazmee revealed that he had penned numerous successful scripts tailored specifically for Govinda, acknowledging him as a brilliant actor.

When queried about Govinda’s prolonged absence from the industry, Anees Bazmee disclosed, “Not only me, there are many others who too want to work with him. And the day I get an opportunity to do so, when I feel that yes this is the particular film, the particular role that Govinda ji should do, then of course, I’ll be happy to approach him. We share such a long-standing association that I know if there is something perfectly written for him, and if he does it, it will be great. He will totally elevate that character.” Bazmee expressed his eagerness to collaborate with Govinda again.

Anees Bazmee is currently working on Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 which stars Kartik Aaryan, Tripti Dimri and Vidya Balan. The film is supposed to release this Diwali.
